The Maison Ikkoku anime series, based on the manga by Rumiko Takahashi and animated by Studio Deen, ran for 96 regular episodes.[1] Three Original video animation (OVA) were also released after the series' end, one in 1988, another in 1991 and the last in 1992. A feature-length movie was released during the series' airing. Viz Media licensed the TV series in 1994. The first 36 episodes were released in an English dubbed and subtitled format, spanning 18 volumes, from April 1996 to August 6, 1999
